Max Cullen Verbally Commits to Loras College
Jan 11

IMG 0525

Max Cullen, a 2019 1B from Joliet Catholic Academy, has verbally committed to Loras College.

When you think of a great young man, Max immediately comes to mind. He is humble, hard working, awesome teammate and a great student.

I always say Max's game isn't the prettiest but he is an absolute gamer. Always seems to find the barrell, even on his outs.

Loras went 25-15 last year which included a 6-4 loss to Iowa. Max will be coached by Carl Tebon who is in his 24th season at Loras. Coach Tebon has won over 517 games.

The greatest part of Max's committment is he will not have to pay a dime for his college education.

With his committment, Max becomes the 19th Rhino player in the 2019 class to commit and the 136th player since 2013.

Congrats Max!

With his committment, Luke becomes the 18th Rhino player in the 2019 class to commit and the 135th player since 2013.

Congrats Luke!

His dad wrote, "I honestly feel that Nick's performance in baseball has elevated since our joining Rhino. As Parents, June and I are extremely please with Rhino, its staff and the families whom play under the Rhino logo."

Nick started to garner national attention when he hit .750 with a double and a HR at the PG WWBA Freshman Midwest Championship.

Joining Nick in Perfect Game recognition is Rhino teammates Abram Wills ('22 RHP/UTIL) as a High Follow and Matt Merk ('22 C) as a follow.

Dec 04

IMG 3762

Bret Whiffen, a 2019 INF from Green Bay Southwest HS, has verbally comitted to William Penn University.

Whiff is a great example of being a great teammate playing anywhere on the field to help the team, picking up his teammates and leading by exmaple showing his outstanding work ethic and determination.

He has been a part of the Rhino Wisco program since day 1. He uses the facility access to get in more reps on his own and rarely missed a practice over the last 4 years.

Bret will be coached by Mike Laird who is in his 37th season at the helm. Coach Laird is nearing his 1000th win as he is 981-560-3 in his tenure at William Penn.

During his years Coach Laird has seen 50 of his former players go onto be drafted and/or sign to professional contracts.

Bret's committment makes him the 17th Rhino in the 2019 class and 134th overall player since 2013.

Congrats kid!

Nov 29

IMG 3696

Colin Olkiewicz, a 2019 OF from Minooka HS, has verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Colin has been with the Rhino program since it's beginning years.

A supurb athlete, Colin is a very toolsy player. He runs a sub 6.9, has mid 90's exit velo and low 80's from a crow hop. He is currrently ranked 169th overall in Illinois by Prep Baseball Report.

Colin will be joining fellow Rhino teammate Jackson Mladic at UWO.

They will be coached by Kevin Tomasiewicz who is going into his fifth season as the head coach and led the team to a 34-10 record in 2018.

Coach Kevin was a pitcher at UW-Whitewater where he was named to the WIAC All-Centennial Team and selected in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB Draft.

Colin joins 15 other Rhino players in the 2019 class that have committed and becomes the 133rd players since 2013 to commit in our program.

Congrats kid!

Alex Martinez Commits to Moraine Valley CC
Nov 27

IMG 3684

Alex Martinez, a 2019 INF from Lockport HS, has committed to Moraine Valley CC.

There may not be a more well liked player in our program than Alex. He is the epitome of a great teammate. He works very hard at his craft and has an acute awareness for the game.

At the plate he very rarely has a bad at bat and alway brings a compeitive approach to the dish.

Moraine Valley went 17-29 last year (8-12 in conference) against a very competiive schedule including Wabash Valley, Madison Area Tech, Oakton CC and Kankakee CC.

Alex will be coached by Hugh Dennehy who took over as head coach in 2016. His assistant is General McArthur who coaches in the Rhino program and was Alex's head coach this past Rhino season.

With his committment, Alex becomes the 15th Rhino player in the 2019 class to commit and 132nd player since 2013.

Congrats Alex!

Grant Young Verbally Commits to Cornerstone University
Nov 26

IMG 3678

Grant Young, a 2019 MIF/RHP from Harvest Christian Academy, has verbally committed to Cornerstone University.

A very gifted athlete, Grant possesses quick twitch actions in the infield and a plus arm which can get into the upper 80's from across the diamond. He is a player who makes that "wow" type of play very consistantly.

Cornerstone is a program that we regularly share with our younger high school players as a place they may not know of but one that has unbelievable facilities.

The NAIA program went 25-23 last season and was coached by Chuck Lowitzki who is in his 3rd season and is 49-52 overall. Coach Lowitzki has coached 5 players who have been drafted. Ben Sheckler, a pitcher for Cornerstone from 2013-2016 is the most recent one.

The field is surrounded by a stadium like feel with dorm rooms, indoor cages, weight room and offices enclosing it.

Very excited for Grant and his future at Cornerstone.

Congrats!

Robert Farrell Verbally Commits to Missouri Western State University
Nov 12

IMG 3489

Robert Farrell, a 2019 LHP from Joliet Central HS, has verbally committed to DII Missouri Western State University.

What he lacks in physical size he more than makes up for in pitchability and moxy on the mound. Robert possesses the ability to throw an plus breaking ball in any count which makes his 80 mph fastball get on hitters quick. He knows how to pitch and never backs down from a big moment.

Robert has always been one of my favorite pitchers to ever watch because some of the more talented teams he faced this summer had no idea what was coming when he stepped on the mound. You can ask Rake City  (7IP, 0 ER, 7K), Team Indiana (6IP, 10K, 3 ER) or US Elite (3.2IP and 8 K).

MWSU is coached by Buzz Verduzco who will be going into his 20th season there and is 533-390. Coach Verduzco has seen three of his player's drafted in thre MLB draft. Before coming to to MWSU he was an assistant coach at Washington State University.

The Kansas City Chiefs call MWSU their summer training camp home which allows for unbelievable faciltiies that players such as Robert are able to utilize.

Robert will be joining Rhino alumn Jordan Jackson at MWSU who is a redshirt freshman. Robert, standing at about 5'7" and 140lbs, is about as opposite, physically, as you can get  than Jordan Jackson who is 6'2" and 230lbs but their work ethic, morals and results on the field are nearly identical.

Could not be more excited for Robert. The coaches at MWSU knew exactly the type of game Robert has and didn't care that he wasn't mid 80's or 6'2. They knew he was a gamer and makes high end hitters look silly.

Congrats Robert! Go out there and prove any doubters wrong!

MJ Stavola Verbally Commits to Indiana Wesleyan
Nov 05

IMG 3339

MJ Stavola, a 2019 OF/LHP from Aurora Christian HS, has verbally committed to Indiana Wesleyan University.

MJ is coming off of a state championship run with his high school where he was the leadoff hitter and center fielder.

A gifted athlete overall, MJ has a plus arm from the outfield (90+) and is a very instinctual player. He has patience at the plate and will be looking to add on more size and strength at IWU.

Rich Benjamin is the head coach at IWU and will be going into his 4th year.

In his first year as head coach the Wildcats went to the NAIA National Championship. and repeated that feat this past year (37-20 overall and 20-6 in conference).

MJ is in great hands as Coach Benjamin has an uncanny knack for knowing the exact type of players he recruits into the program at IWU. They recruit only high character young men and MJ fits that bill to a tee.

Incredibly excited to see the bright future ahead of MJ and to see it in a program where he has every opportunity to grow both as a young men and as a baseball player.

Congrats!

Tony Fleischauer Verbally Commits to Grand Valley State
Oct 23

IMG 3258

Tony Fleischauer, a 2019 INF/C from Joliet Catholic Academy, has verbally committed to Grand Valley State University.

Tony is a left handed hitter that possesses a strong barrel, a plus arm and good size that has more upside. He is coming off of a fantastic junior year at JCA where he started behind the dish.

Through the recruiting process Tony had a number of options but Grand Valley became his number 1 choice. They saw him play late into the fall at our double header unsigned senior game against the Illinois Indians.

GVSU plays in the GLIAC and overall went 28-23 last year. Tony will be teammates with Rhino alumn Anthony Cocco and will battle against Rhino alumns Buzz BeDell (Tiffin) and Matt Littrell (Ashland) who are both in the conference.

The head coach of GVSU is Jamie Detillion who will be in his 9th season at the helm. In his first year in 2013 Coach Detillion led his team to the DII CWS and finished third. Overall he is 178-91-1 and a fantastic 106-47 in conference play.

Very excited for Tony and his committment to GVSU. Truly believe this is a great fit for him and couldnt be more excited to see him continue to climb towards his very high ceiling.

Congrats Tony!

Jackson Mladic Verbally Commits to UW-Oshkosh
Oct 14

IMG 3161

Jackson Mladic, a 2019 OF from Lockport Township HS, has verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Jackson is about as strong as they come and that shows in his barrel strenghth with exit velos in the mid to upper 90's.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh team is coached by Kevin Tomasiewicz who is going into his fifth season as the head coach and led the team to a 34-10 record in 2018.

Coach Kevin was a pitcher at UW-Whitewater where he was named to the WIAC All-Centennial Team and selected in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB Draft.

Jackson had a tough choice as he had to choose between a number of very good baseball schools that he could of played at that also had great nursing programs.

Congrats Jackson!

UW-Oshkosh is getting a great young man.

John Gallet Verbally Commits to UW-Whitewater
Oct 03

IMG 3046

John Gallet, a 2019 LHP from Lockport Township HS, has verbally committed to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Johnny has continued to progress that last few years and is currently touching 84mph on the gun. He is long and lengthy and has a large amount of upside.

White at UWW, Johnny will be coached by John Vodenlich who is in his 16th season as the head coach. He has been named the NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year by the ABCA in both 2005 and 2014.

The UWW is known as one of the best DIII programs in the country and won a national title in 2014.

On the recruiting side, Johnny had a large number of options, but at the end of the day felt as if UWW was the place for him.

Congrats Johnny.

Lot of potential in you, go unlock it!

Dylan Szajkovics Verbally Commits to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Sep 24

IMG 2923

Dylan Szajkovcs, a 2019 RHP from Plainfield North HS, has verbally committed to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

In his first few years in the program Dylan also played shortstop but eventually focused on just pitching and never looked back (besides his occasional "look at me" swings in the cage).

Dylan has continued to improve year after year which is a testament to his hard work and determination. He has seen over a 10mph increase in his fastball velocity in 2 years (76 to 89).

While at UWM, Dylan will be seeing a familiar face in Rhino alum Mikey Edwards. Mikey will be a sophomore this coming year and as a freshman pitched 29.1 innings with a 2.45 ERA , 24K's and only 8BB.

Scott Doffek will be coaching Dylan at UWM. Coach Doffek is going into his 12th year as head coach of the Panthers and 24th overall. In his years coaching he has seen a number of his players get drafted to the MLB.

Great to see your hard work and determination pay off Dylan. Congrats!
